The Aaron Rodgers drama could be coming to an end by early Wednesday afternoon.
The superstar quarterback will take the microphone on “The Pat McAfee Show” at 1 pm ET on the former NFL player’s YouTube channel.
The 39-year-old quarterback has been the biggest issue this offseason as the NFL world – especially the Jets – wait for him to finally make up his mind about his future. He could remain with the Packers, accept a trade to the Jets (or another team), or retire from football altogether.
Gang Green has been chasing the four-time MVP this offseason. Jets bosses including owner Woody Johnson, GM Joe Douglas, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and head coach Robert Saleh flew to California last week to try to convince Rodgers to join them.
“It’s always interesting to meet important figures in the sport,” Rodgers said of meeting the Jets. “It’s always interesting, that’s all I’m giving you. That’s all I’m giving you.
“Stay tuned, it won’t be long. There is a time limit to all of this.
Since then, according to ESPN, Rodgers has given the Jets a list of players to go after, including wide receiver Allen Lazard (who the team signed a four-year, $44 million deal on Tuesday afternoon). Randall Cobb, Marcades Lewis and Odell Beckahm Jr. are the others Rodgers would have asked the Jets to sign.
Meanwhile, the Packers seem eager to move forward and hand over the keys to their franchise to quarterback Jordan Love, whom they selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy has not been shy about making public comments about the situation with his franchise quarterback.
“Yes [Rodgers can remain a Packer], I mean, unless things don’t work out the way they’d like,” Murphy told WBAY-TV on Friday. “I can’t go into all the details, but it’s a situation where I think we wanted to help Aaron get what he wanted, as did the Packers. Hopefully to create a win-win situation for both sides.
Rodgers could wrap up the story in his own words in a few hours. Stay tuned.
