Sun Sentinel Columnist and Photographer Honored in National Top 10 by Sports Editors Group – The Mercury News

Longtime South Florida Sun Sentinel sports columnist and a former photographer were honored by Associated Press sports editors this week.

Dave Hyde was named one of the top 10 sports columnists in the country for his work in 2022, vying for the highest circulation category. It is the 17th time that Hyde has received APSE Top 10 honors. Hyde’s winning columns were on the story of Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, the firing of Dolphins coach Brian Flores, former NFL player Jason Taylor, balancing coaching and parenting, and a fundraiser for help a veteran freelance sports writer.

Photographer Michael Laughlin’s photo of Heat star Jimmy Butler making an excited face during pre-game introductions was named in the top 10 nationally for sports photos in 2022.

In the coming weeks, APSE will reveal the first, second and third place winners in each category of the top 10.
