George Santos has yet another headache coming his way, thanks to amended files sent to the FEC this week.

The embattled New York congressman was already facing calls for his resignation or expulsion – from both parties – before his filings with the Federal Election Commission this week. Now these filings are becoming the source of problem after problem, each with the potential to run afoul of the law.

The latest issue flagged by ABC News reporters on Thursday stems from filings that several fundraising committees working on behalf of the Santos 2022 campaign filed with the agency specifying a change in the individual designated as treasurer of the committees. These committees are now listed as having their financial operations overseen by Thomas Datwyler, a longtime expert in political campaign finance.

But there’s just one problem: Mr. Datwyler adamantly told ABC News that he is not working for the Santos campaign and, in fact, informed them of this before the FEC files were sent.

A Brazilian individual claiming to be the ex-boyfriend of Congressman George Santos appeared on CNN and said that Mr. Santos only cared about “fame and power” and that he expects him to continue to reject calls for resignation.

Pedro Vilarva has previously said that he had a romantic relationship with Santos in 2014, when he was just 18 and the future deputy was 26 – and that their relationship was full of dishonesty on Santos’ part.

Republican Congressman George Santos claimed in August 2020 that Jeffrey Epstein “may still be alive” – ​​a year after the pedophile killed himself in his Manhattan cell.

In a recently resurfaced interview, Santos – who has already been caught up in a number of lies about his past, background and family – claimed he met with Epstein a few times and defended the conspiracy theory that he was “murdered” in prison.

Epstein was found dead in his cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial for child trafficking. His death was ruled a suicide.

Mr. Santos then backtracked on his death, claiming he may still be alive.

“I wouldn’t doubt that he’s still walking around us and we’re all like, ‘Oh my God, the guy’s alive,’ and we can’t tell,” he said. “You know what, it’s 2020, anything can happen.”

Embattled Republican Party Representative George Santos is now under scrutiny for claiming he survived an unidentified assassination attempt.

The Republican, who has admitted to lying several times during his candidacy for Congress, made the savage allegation during an interview with the Brazilian podcast “Rádio Novelo Presente” last month.

“We’ve already had an attempt on my life, an assassination attempt, a threatening letter, having to have the police – a police escort stopped in front of our house,” he said.

Mr. Santos did not go into detail about the alleged assassination plot, and he is not believed to have publicly mentioned it before then. During the interview, he also stated that he was mugged on Fifth Avenue in New York and that his Florida home was vandalized.

George Santos filed an amended financial disclosure form with the FEC on Tuesday, and within minutes, reporters and election law experts noticed some pretty glaring problems. To start with, there are two loans – for US$500,000 and US$125,000 – that are no longer identified as coming from Santos’ personal funds, as they once were.

And then there’s the unusually high number of donations, just under the $200 threshold — an occurrence that immediately raised questions about its legitimacy.

It looks like the New York congressman has another set of questions to answer as the saga of his arrival in Washington continues.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy went undercover with a reporter at the U.S. Capitol during a news conference on Tuesday after the reporter questioned him about why he wasn’t doing more to punish George Santos for repeatedly lying to voters and the media.
