Actor Jeremy Renner He was trying to prevent his snowplow from sliding and hitting his adult nephew when he was dragged under the vehicle and crushed on New Year’s Day, according to an incident report from the Nevada sheriff’s office.

The parking brake was not applied and would have stopped the snowcat vehicle, which is racing on a track, as it began to slide sideways after the 52 year old The “Avengers” star used it to pull his nephew’s truck out of the snow, according to the redacted report from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office filed Friday.

“The Pistenbully snow groomer began to slide, causing Renner to exit the vehicle without applying the emergency brake,” read the conclusion to the report, which CNN obtained Tuesday through a public records request.

“Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical problems, based on our mechanical inspection, it is believed that the parking brake would prevent the Pistenbully from moving forward. When Renner tried to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to (his nephew of his), the track swept him under the vehicle and he was run over.”

The brake indicator light inside the snowcat’s cabin was not working, and “mechanical problems may have been a factor in this accident,” the report also states.

The nephew was able to help Renner until help arrived, the report states. Renner was airlifted to the hospital, where he stayed for more than two weeks, underwent at least two surgeries and received treatment in the intensive care unit.

Deterioration was not believed to be a factor in the incident, the report also concludes. CNN has reached out to Renner’s representatives for comment.

The incident began on New Year’s Day, when Renner towed his nephew’s truck out of the actor’s driveway after it got stuck in the snow, he told investigators on Jan. 5 while he was hospitalized, according to the report from the court. incident.

After towing the truck onto the street, the snowplow began to “slide sideways,” then “started rolling down the hill,” Renner said. At that moment, Renner jumped from the snowcat, he told investigators.

“Once he got out of the Pistenbully, he realized it was heading straight for (his nephew),” the report says. “He was afraid that the Pistenbully was going to hit (his nephew), so he decided to try to stop or deflect the Pistenbully.”

To get into the cab of the snowplow, Renner had to climb onto the moving track and was “immediately pulled under the track on the left side,” the report states.

Renner was “completely crushed under a large snow truck (vehicle)” and had “extreme (difficulty) breathing,” with “the right side of his chest…collapsed, upper torso crushed,” a 911 call log obtained by CNN said.

“The Pistenbully ran over it and continued on the road,” the report says. “He lay on the ground and focused on his breathing as (his nephew and others) assisted him until medical personnel arrived on scene.”

Renner, who plays archer superhero Hawkeye in the Marvel movie and TV show “Universe,” broke more than 30 bones in the incident, he said.
