BOSTON – House Democratic Leader Katherine Clark’s daughter has been charged with assault after an altercation with a police officer who was trying to arrest her for allegedly spray-painting anti-police messages on the Boston Common bandstand.
Riley Dowell, 23, who was identified in a police press release on Sunday under the name Jared, which Clark’s office identified as his former name, was spotted defacing the bandstand with “NO COP CITY” and “ACAB” – “all cops are bastards” – during a protest on Saturday night.
As she was being arrested, police said about 20 protesters began to surround the officers, shouting profanities and blocking traffic. During that time, a police officer was “hit in the face and can be seen bleeding from the nose and mouth”.
