King Charles III coronation: New details released by Buckingham Palace, including a star-studded concert

King Charles Birthday

Buckingham palace on Saturday unveiled new details about King Charles III’s coronation celebration over a weekend this May, which will include a star-studded televised concert at Windsor Palace.

The festivities will begin with the coronation of Charles and Queen Camilla at Westminster Abbey on the morning of May 6 (where of Queen Elizabeth II funeral was held), which will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The palace called it a “solemn religious service, as well as an occasion for celebration and pomp.”

“As previously announced, the Service will reflect the role of the Monarch today and look to the future, while taking root in long-standing traditions and pageantry,” the palace said in a statement.

It is expected to be a smaller event compared to the late queen’s coronation in 1953.

The King and Queen Consort will arrive from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey in the “King’s Procession” and then return to the palace in the larger “Coronation Procession” which will include members of the royal family.

The palace gave no information on whether Prince Harry, who is promoting her book “Spare”, which is very critical of the royal family, or Meghan Markle will attend the coronation or any of its related events.

Harry declined to say whether he would accept a coronation invite in a recent interview, saying: “A lot can happen between now and then. But the door is always open. The ball is in their court.”

The palace has not said which members of the royal family will attend. Prince Harry refused in a recent interview to say if he would attend his father's coronation.
