Tornado detected in Iowa County near Williamsburg

Several observers reported a tornado in Iowa County around Williamsburg on Monday around 2:00 p.m., which traveled north into the Amana counties area. the first tornado in Iowa in January since 1967. The National Weather Service confirmed that the tornado was an EF1 with maximum wind speeds of around 90 mph. The tornado traveled less than 5 miles and was on the ground for about 8 minutes. No injuries were reported by KCCI meteorologist Trey Fulbright who was in Iowa County and captured footage of the storm. The threat of bad weather ended for the Des Moines Observation Area.

A tornado warning was issued for the Cedar Rapids area by 3:00 pm.

This is the first January tornado in Iowa since 1967.
