The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office has issued mandatory evacuation orders in several areas due to rising river and stream levels and flooding. . According to the National Weather Service, the San Lorenzo River in Felton is approaching the major flood stage, which happens at 21.8 feet. An evacuation order was also issued for low-lying areas in Soque Village, including Soquel Wharf Road, due to the rapid growth of Soquel Creek. Deputies went door-to-door to notify affected properties. According to the United States Geological Survey, Soquel Creek reached the minor flood stage and peaked at 16.46 feet on Saturday afternoon. The creek level is now falling, the data showed. Heavy rains and runoff also caused flooding on the Rio Del Mar Esplanade.
