ABC could be looking down the barrel of a lawsuit if it shoots or pushes t.j. holmes Y amy robach outside of their anchoring jobs… because we’re told the 2 have lawyered up big time and if it comes to litigation… race could be an issue.
Sources with direct knowledge told TMZ … ABC has not given any clues to TJ or Amy as to why they were taken off the air a month ago … after their romantic relationship emerged. We’re told they’re confused and frustrated by the fact that ABC News’ top brass first told people internally there would be no disciplinary action, and then the company did a U-turn.
Our sources say that Amy has hired Andrew Brettlerone of the best civil attorneys in Hollywood, and TJ has advocated with eric georgea legal force that has handled numerous celebrity cases.
We’re told that Brettler and George want answers, which they’re not getting so far. Our sources say that if ABC keeps TJ and Amy off the air or fires them, the lawyers are ready to file a lawsuit, and one of the issues has to do with race.
We’re told the lawyers will ask ABC this question… “Did ABC ever use the morals or conduct clause to fire or discipline 2 equally consenting adults when they were both white?” Sources go on to say that it would be telling if this is the first time ABC has invoked the moral clause in these circumstances…with a Black and White host.
Sources go on to say that the damages could be enormous if their reputations and careers are ruined as a result of network discipline.
A source says the only thing TJ and Amy can think of regarding what ABC thinks they did wrong is not informing them of the relationship in a timely manner. To that, the sources say… “Are you supposed to report to your boss when you pick up on feelings?”
We’ve contacted ABC…so far, no response.
